Concern has been growing among the affiliate marketing community due to those members who have been banned by Google from using Adwords. Industries have cut way back on the number of advertisers as a result of this ban. Others think Google is going tobe banning all affiliate marketers from using this servivce. Why the concern? Is this the death of affiliate marketing on Google?
It’s better not to jump to conclusions and assume that Google’s goal is to rid the Universe Of Affiliate Marketers, since many of them continue to thrive on Google. While its true that some advertisers have been banned for life, consider the reasoning behind such an obvious exclusion. Evidence indicates that Google is targeting a very narrow category of advertisers, and not just people who are doing affiliate marketing.
These banned advertisers had one thing in common – they either promoted or were suspected of promoting a business opportunity product, or “bizz-opp.” To be more specific, they used Google’s brand in the product name. It is an obviously attempt to take advantage of Google’s name as a keyword, which would support its superiority and stronghold on the internet.
Although some affiliate marketers can swear their material has nothing to do with using the brand name, it is offensive to Google and can lead to banishment. It leaves the playing field wide open for lawsuits and litigation attorneys to protect the good name of Google.
Innocent bystanders have been caught in the ban as well, which is unfortunate. The far reaching search for those who cheat the system goes on, although Google still accepts payments from some affiliate marketers outside the industry of business opportunity. They tack on “reviews″ as a way to be more cautious.
Remember that affiliates were once publishers, because they had already published volumes of content on a particular topic. It even looks like Google is creating its own Affiliate Network, since they are selling their space to affiliate marketers and add the word “review” after it. They are always looking for new advertisers, especially those who have mountains of topic on their own websites.
So it may be a little premature to announce the end of Affiliate Marketing on Google as we know it, just because a small margin of marketers are no longer allowed to use Adwords in promoting their business. The truth is, Google is mindful of the those marketers who tend to generalize and through other affiliates into the same catergory as those who want to promote shoddy products and price gouging programs.
