DSL – Today’s Choice for Affordable High Speed Internet

by Jermain Kidley on April 9, 2010

When DSL first emerged on the internet landscape, most people were shocked at how fast it was. The classic model of dialup was quickly replaced by the ever expansive world of DSL. Yes, DSL has a lot of value.

These days, people are looking towards cable internet service as a replacement for DSL. However, it is really not a great idea to be completely dismissive of the value of DSL. Believe it or not, DSL can sometimes prove to be a much better option than purchasing cable internet service.

Some may find this statement to be extremely surprising. It really should not be because many great technological strides have been made over the years. Most people, however, are not all that familiar with what DSL offers in comparison to cable internet. Some may be interested to learn that some of the DSL speeds can exceed what a number of cable internet service providers offer. Those that are not paying much attention to the DSL world may not realize its speeds have expanded dramatically in recent years.

Unfortunately, most consumers have an opinion of DSL that assumes the older version is all that is available. They are unaware of the advancements in technology that have helped DSL expand to what it is today. There is also another huge plus to the current faster DSL systems: they can be procured in a manner that is much less expensive than traditionally assumed.

This is a point that bears repeating: you do not have to pay a significant amount of money to gain a fast internet service. DSL is commonly cheaper than most cable internet services even though some DSL systems provide speeds that are equivalently fast.

If many consumers of cable internet realized this, they would assuredly switch their current cable service and make the move to a top name in the DSL industry. And there are definitely some huge names to choose from including AT&ampT and Verizon.

On a side note, is it always necessary to have the highest speed available? For those that use their internet for purposes that do not generally require speed, DSL offers excellent options for medium speeds in much greater variety than cable internet providers. And, of course, these reduced speeds still come with the same reliable service as the faster versions. So, you would not be sacrificing quality in any way.

DSL still has much to offer in the current consumer landscape. Those wishing for a solid and reliable high speed internet service are definitely advised to look into what the top DSL providers have to offer.
