Internet Marketing – A Half-Hearted Attempt Just Won’t Cut It

by Johna Snyder on March 17, 2010

You need to accept that this is not a short trip, but a long journey. The prize waiting at the end of the journey should always be on your mind. You must have the same intense drive of an Olympic athlete in order to be a successful online entrepreneur. The one to three years it takes to really see results and produce revenue in the hundreds of thousands, will be the most exciting but the most challenging years you can imagine.

Becoming financially free doesn′t happen overnight, so you need to allow yourself the time to get there. You wouldn′t purchase a franchise and then give up on it after a few months. It would probably take several years to turn a profit. An online business is similar to an offline business in that respect. You need to work at it for a couple of years at least. After a few years you can analyze the results, change what needs to be adjusted, and keep moving forward. It′s as simple as keeping your eyes on the prize and continuing toward goal. Know what you want to accomplish and keep working toward it.

Remember the fable of the tortoise and the hare. Everyone knows the tortoise wins in the end, not because he dazzled everyone with his speed, but because he was smarter, more determined and did not relax or give up.

An athlete who understands what it takes to win is the well known golfer Nancy Lopez. She puts it this way: “A competitor will find a way to win. Competitors take bad breaks and use them to drive themselves just that much harder. Quitters take bad breaks and use them as reasons to give up. It′s all a matter of pride.” Baseball players have a different perspective on it: if you never go to bat, you will never strike out. But you will never hit a home run, either.

Brian Tracy is a master of self-development whom I have admired since the last century. He understands the successful athlete or business person. He also emphasizes in his counsel that you must take the long view-successful athletes do not look down at where their feet are now they keep their eyes on the road ahead, and the location of the goal. They have the endurance to get there. They have worked and trained so they know they can make it successful people don′t let doubt enter their minds and never give up.

Robert Allen gives the ultimate simile. He has created wealth for himself through real estate, internet marketing and network marketing. Respect for his opinions has made him an author on the New York Times best-seller list. He compares success to climbing Mount McKinley, the highest mountain in the 48 contiguous U.S. states. His advice: imagine you have inherited a million dollars. But it is on top of Mt. McKinley! You have only one year in which to do it, so go get it!

Obviously, you and I are not going to be able to climb Mt. McKinley right now (well, maybe you can, but I could not). Neither could most of Mr. Allen′s staff. But given a year, we could pull it off if we KNEW what was waiting at the peak. Keep this in mind when you venture into the internet business world and take heart-within a year, with the proper guidance, you will easily be able to whip that climb!

By now, most of us have heard about “The Secret″. We are well-versed in the Law of Reciprocity that states, “If you do good for others, then good will be returned to you.” The Law of Attraction is similar. It tells us that when we do good for others with no expectation of gain, we attract good things to ourselves. That′s the way life is. Sometimes we simply feel great just because we know we helped someone else.
