Who Else Wants A Business Plan For Online Marketing

by Candace Walker on March 15, 2010

A business plan is a modern-day treasure map for the attraction marketer. On a treasure map, “X” marks the spot where the hidden treasure lies. If you consistently follow your plan, you’ll find your treasure. Creating a business or marketing plan allows you to map out where you are, where you want to go and when and how to get there. You also need to plan out and follow a budget so that you don’t run out of money on your way to your fortune.

It all begins with your desire. A victor’s mindset is a prerequisite for internet attraction marketing success. Napoleon Hill said “First comes thought; then organization of that thought, into ideas and plans then transformation of those plans into reality. The beginning, as you will observe, is in your imagination.”

Just as you wouldn’t consider starting an offline business without a business plan, you shouldn’t start an online business without a business plan or a marketing plan. Many years ago, when I first started dreaming about having my own business, I created what was then called a treasure map or a dream board.

I know you are all familiar with pirates and treasure maps. The treasure could, of course, be gold or money, but it could also be the key to a treasure chest or the solution to your problems. It could be the location of the “fountain of youth”, the solution to your health challenges, the way to achieve success in your personal relationships, or the answers to all of your business problems.

Your spot marked “X” is what will motivate you. It should represent what you truly want and are willing to put forth all the necessary effort to achieve. It will be the goal that you must keep your eye on, whether that goal is wealth or finding fulfillment in family or in helping others. If you want to make a mark on the world, start with marking an “X” on your personal treasure map, writing down and even inserting illustrations of things that will fire your imagination and get you excited. Let me offer an example of what such a treasure map or dream board should be.

Work-at-home entrepreneurs frequently create a similar kind of treasure map. This map is sometimes called a dream board, and it is comprised of everything the new businessperson wants to be, do, and have. It lists the entrepreneur’s hopes, plans, and wishes. Some treasure maps focus on money and possessions, but the dream boards can also emphasize the intangibles, such as more time available for family activities, improved relationships with a spouse, more fun activities with the children, improved health due to reduced stressful encounters with people you don’t want to work with, and other similar items.

The words of your business plan can give reality and solidity to your dreams. This is what your own dream board might show.

For me, creating a dream board is a fun and creative release of energy. I sometimes create video dream boards – putting my hopes, dreams, plans, and aspirations into a photographic slide show. I add my favorite music. My home office rocks as I watch my video treasure maps a couple of times each day, while I work at my computer.
