You are right in that templates are a great way to get massive value for very little. However, the real value of design services is not necessarily in the pretty pictures and eye popping design. To me a good design team is not only good at finding an eye appealing solution, but also puts in place a website that is well setup for SEO, as well as converting the highest percentage of people into followers or clients. Therefore these days, straight out web design is becoming more commoditized and higher value services like marketing and consultation are coming to the forefront. Just my 2 cents. I encourage people to buy templates as much as possible… even though I make money from designing websites for people.
